Ehci Driver Installation Disk Windows 98
I have a nine year old Dell Inspiron 3200 laptop running Windows 98(not SE, which sucked). I don't have the original Windows 98 Setup Disk or my product key, they were lost long, long ago. Seriously if someone asks me what happened to them, I'll ignore them, because who really has any of that crap after nine years. So anyway, I'm an novelist, and on the hard disk of this ancient old friend are several Word documents that happen to contain several chapters and outlines of some stories I started to write long ago. They're crappy stories, but it would be nice to have them on my desktop. I'm a terrible author, so these documents are by no means a matter of life and death. Fortunately this ancient familiar of mine has in its bag of ancient hardware a Linksys Combo PCMCIA Ethernet Card, and a 56k modem(oooooooh).
However I can't find the phone cord for the modem, so I'm left with the ethernet card. Unfortunately the drivers for it are not installed. If I could get this crazy old hag of a machine online, it would take only minutes to send these terrible stories of mine to myself via e-mail. Hp Fan Controller Software 2.0. So I downloaded the drivers for said ethernet card, and burned them to a CD, which I proceeded to insert into the Win98 machine(she liked it) and install. Unfortunately it wasn't enough for her, because she demanded the Windown 98 Setup disk almost immediately. My question is this, can the drivers be installed without that infernal setup disk?
PS, if you suggest in any way shape or form that I spend money for whatever reason, then no, I won't do it, because who spends money on a nine year old Dell laptop? Seriously, answer that, because if you spend money on a nine year old computer, you are an idiot. Short of finding a Windows 98 CD somewhere: see if there's a folder called c: windows options cabs, and use that in stead of the CD (just browse to it, when it asks for the CD). Or - as suggested - take the hard disk out, and mount it as a slave or in an external enclosure. Or see if you can install a driver for a USB drive without needing the CD.
But it could well be that that needs Windows 98 SE. Or find a zip-drive (connects to parallel port).
