The Reno Police Department is looking for volunteers to help with domestic violence victims for an upcoming victim advocate academy. In 2007 the Reno Police Department Victim Services Unit created a Volunteer Victim Advocate program. It lets volunteers help with crisis intervention and coordinate emergency and other support services by phone to victims who have or are currently experiencing domestic violence, stalking and other necessary areas. No prior training is required for volunteers. The initial 45 hour training program is comprised of 10 class sessions scheduled on select weeknights and three Saturdays September 27th through October 18th, as well as a police ride-along. Attendance at all training dates is required.
