Records Music Without Compromise Artists: Julie Wilson Inspired Australian Singer/Songwriter Born in Newcastle-on-Tyne, singer/songwriter Julie Wilson moved with her family to Newcastle-on-Hunter as a young child. Julie’s passion for singing was ignited at the tender age of 9, when she was chosen to sing the lead role in a musical version of Cinderella. As a teenager she accepted roles in many local theatre productions including the Hunter Valley Theatre Company’s West Side Story. While performing in a theatre restaurant in Newcastle, Julie formed a firm friendship with songwriter/producer Mark Tinson who was acting as musical director for the show. Impressed with her vocal ability and ear for harmony, Mark invited Julie to work in his recording studio as a session vocalist, singing jingles for radio & TV and background vocals on many recordings for local artists. When the theatre-restaurant show finished Julie joined the band that had been playing in the show and began performing in clubs & pubs around the Hunter Valley, with a repertoire influence by country artists such as Linda Ronstadt & Olive Newton-John, and British pop singers Dusty Springfield & Sandy Shaw.
Julie’s singing career was interrupted when she moved to Sydney and began a family. She returned to Newcastle in 1996 with her sons Mitchell & Justin and looked up her old friend Mark Tinson who invited her to sing on Demos of some country songs he’d been writing.
